Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced a new designation for educational credential assessments (ECAs) aimed at architects seeking to immigrate to Canada. This initiative is part of the broader eligibility criteria for economic permanent residence programs, ensuring that foreign educational credentials are recognized as equivalent to Canadian standards.
·
The Canadian Architectural
Certification Board (CACB) has been designated by the Minister to issue ECAs
specifically for architects.
· Effective May 20, 2024, this designation applies to applicants identifying as "Architect" (NOC 21200).
Role of ECAs:
·
ECAs confirm the
authenticity and equivalency of foreign degrees, diplomas, or certificates to
Canadian credentials.
· They are necessary for eligibility in economic permanent residence programs and as a step in the licensing process for architects in Canada.
Acceptance of Previous ECAs:
• ECAs issued by other designated organizations before October 31, 2024, will still be accepted if they remain valid, provided the applicant's primary occupation is "Architect" (NOC 21 200).
