The Thai cabinet recently
approved a series of measures aimed at boosting tourism and stimulating
Thailand's economy, including the introduction of a new Destination Thailand
Visa category.
• New Immigration Measures:
o Effective June 1, the visa-on-arrival policy will be extended
from 30 to 60 days for tourists and short-term business travelers from 93
countries.
o The Destination Thailand Visa will be introduced for foreign
nationals seeking extended stays for work and tourism purposes.
o Enhanced rights for student visas will allow graduates of
bachelor’s degree programs or higher to stay for one year post-graduation to
search for jobs or engage in other activities.
• Implementation Details:
o The new Destination Thailand Visa is awaiting official
implementation by the Thai Immigration Bureau. o Once enacted, it will cater to long-term
tourists, digital nomads, and highly skilled foreigners, offering up to a
180-day stay per entry and allowing visa changes within the country.
The visa will cost 10,000 THB
(approximately US$272) and be valid for five years, with a potential extension
for an additional 180 days. These initiatives are part of Thailand's broader
strategy to attract foreign visitors and professionals while supporting
economic recovery. Thailand's new immigration measures, including the
Destination Thailand Visa, reflect proactive steps to adapt to changing tourism
and economic dynamics, aiming to enhance competitiveness and attractiveness as
a destination for international travelers and workers alike.
