Irish officials have announced
significant changes to the management of immigration residence permits in
counties Cork and Limerick, with Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) assuming
responsibility for initial registrations and renewals. This shift, effective
from July 8, aims to streamline the application process and improve
accessibility for residents in these regions.
• ISD's Expanded Role:
o Starting July 8, ISD will handle first-time registrations and
renewal processes for Irish immigration residence permits in counties Cork and
Limerick.
o This responsibility expands ISD's current jurisdiction, which
already includes counties Dublin, Kildare, Meath, and Wicklow.
• Transfer of Responsibilities:
o The responsibility for managing these processes will transition
from the Garda National Immigration Bureau to ISD.
o IRP (Irish Residence Permit) cardholders in Cork and Limerick
can now conveniently renew their cards or apply for Stamp 4 permissions using
ISD's online system, eliminating the need for in-person visits to the Burgh
Quay Registration Office.
First-time registrations will
continue to be conducted in person at ISD offices. Outside of counties Dublin,
Meath, Kildare, Wicklow, Cork, and Limerick, the Garda National Immigration
Bureau will retain responsibility for first-time registrations and renewals.
The reassignment of responsibilities to ISD marks a strategic effort by Irish
officials to improve efficiency and accessibility in managing immigration
residence permits. By leveraging online systems and expanding service coverage,
the initiative aims to enhance the overall experience for residents in counties
Cork and Limerick seeking to register or renew their Irish immigration
permissions.
