On January 22, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a significant change regarding the eligibility of international graduates from college
programs delivered through public-private curriculum licensing arrangements for post-graduation work permits. This change will be effective from May 15, 2024.
- Eligibility Change Effective Date o As of May 15, 2024,
international students beginning programs delivered through public-private
curriculum licensing arrangements will no longer be eligible for a
post-graduation work permit upon graduation.
- This date is earlier than the previouslyannounced implementation date of September 1, 2024.
- Alternative Work Permit Options o Graduates of these
programs can still apply for other types of work permits. o For example,
graduates can seek a work permit supported by an employer's approved Labour
Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), especially for occupations with labor
shortages in Canada.
- Information Availability o The list of designated learning
institutions, indicating whether graduates are eligible for a post-graduation
work permit, is available on the IRCC website.
- IRCC will collaborate with provinces and territories to
identify affected programs and update the list accordingly as more information
becomes available.
